Red Earth/How we build

The standards behind the finish.

Anyone can print a promise. This page sticks to what can be checked: who we're registered with, what we're insured for, who signs our work off, and how a Red Earth site treats the people living and working around it.

Registration & insurance

Red Earth holds Registered Domestic and Commercial Builder registration, and carries Contractors All Risk and Public Liability insurance across our sites. We've been building in Melbourne for over 25 years.

Our registration number is CDB-U 52144. Check it on the Building and Plumbing Commission register before you engage anyone, including us.

Compliance & sign-off

Every job that needs a building permit runs under one, with an independent building surveyor, and structural work carries engineer certification where the work calls for it. On rectification jobs we work to documented scopes with independent sign-off — the report we hand back reads the same as the one we act on.

Nothing gets covered up before it's inspected, and handover comes with the documentation to prove it.

03

Respect for the community

A build site sits inside someone's neighbourhood, and on multi-residential work, inside someone's home. Our sites run with:

  • Access notices before disruptive work, and controlled noise windows
  • Common areas and adjoining property protected before work starts
  • A daily site clean and secured hoarding
  • One site contact who answers — for the client, the neighbours and the manager
04

Materials & environment

We build with materials chosen to last, and reuse them where the design allows. The recycled brick across our North Melbourne apartment and townhouse projects came from demolition stock, laid by hand into new facades. Rammed earth, recycled brick and solid timber age well and repair honestly. A building that still stands in a century is the most environmental decision on the job.

The rest is site practice and specification:

  • Waste sorted, not skipped. Metal, timber and general waste separated on every site. No rubbish piles, no overflowing bins.
  • Stormwater protected. Hay bales and sandbags in place before we cut a new site, so runoff and sediment stay out of the drain.
  • Fabric first. Insulation and airtightness taken well above the minimum, including the high-level insulation package on our Macedon Ranges house, and passive principles priced while the design is still on paper.
  • All-electric where the client wants it. Solar, battery, rainwater tanks and water-efficient fixtures specified as standard options rather than upgrades.
  • Sourced close and certified. Australian-made and local supply where it's available, timber from responsibly certified sources.

Standing behind it

Domestic building work in Victoria carries statutory warranties that run for years after handover — and we treat them as a commitment, not an exposure. Defects get resolved with best-practice solutions, long after the keys are handed over; rectifying other builders' work is part of what we do, so we build ours expecting the same scrutiny.

Want the paperwork behind any of this? Just ask.

Registration, insurance certificates, sample scopes and handover documentation — we'd rather show you than tell you.
